Project Description

You have been given $10,000 to spend on your family and friends for presents for Christmas. You may spend up to $5000 of this amount on yourself. Shop around for the best deals on the Internet, and read reviews to find the best products for your money. Remaining funds will be donated to the charity of your choice. Research them to determine which one is the best fit for your interests.

You will create a spreadsheet in Excel detailing your purchases. Comparison prices must be documented, and final purchases will be detailed (including tax and shipping charges as applicable). The spreadsheet must include calculations to detail your expenditures.

A PowerPoint presentation will serve as the formal presentation tool. It will explain each purchase, the sites used to “shop around”, and to whom these gifts will ultimately be given.  Inspiration will be used to provide comparison graphics for your slides. Consider sound, animations, and overall artistic elements to create an attractive presentation. The PowerPoint must also include graphs (Created in Excel) detailing how your money was spent.

Elements to Consider:

Shop Responsibly
Don’t go crazy picking out the first items you see. Research possible gifts, especially more expensive items, to see which brands and models are most highly recommended. Document information from at least three different sites when you settle on a specific item. Check for sales (especially around Thanksgiving) to get more for your money. You cannot overspend your budget, and tax and shipping count!
Note: For this project, avoid shopping on eBay. You aren’t able to wait
       out the online auction.

Avoid Impulse Buys
Put some real thought into your gifts. Try to find gifts that best fit each recipient. Be practical and appropriate. Fun gifts are great, but don’t waste your money on poor choices.

Document Everything
Keep track of all the steps of this project in a Word document. You may want to detail your information in journal form as a way to format your project. You will have to cite all your information, so keep track of your sites and information.
