Overview of Technology Progression at KJHS

Progression of Technology (2004-2005 School Year)

  • Computer lab for computer classes assembled
  • Donated (old) computers in use in library for basic Word Processing and limited applications
  • Computer Technology I class established (3 sections)

Progression of Technology (2005-2006 School Year)

  • Curriculum Changes
    • – Incorporated 5th grade keyboarding (quarter)
    • – Incorporated 6th grade computers (semester)
    • – Established Computer Technology II (full year), in addition to continuing Computer Technology I course
  • Updated hardware at server level
  • Installed new computer lab in Room 19
    • Computers from lab moved to library to provide additional lab for general and study hall use
  • Continued to expand and develop KJHS Web site
  • Added beneficial software and applications

Progression of Technology (2006-2007 School Year)

  • Continue to develop technology classes at KJHS to improve technology skills to coincide to No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the National Education Technology Standards (NETS).
  • Create professional development opportunities for faculty and staff:
    • Basic computer skills
      • Using our system and the network efficiently
      • Skills in Windows XP, Microsoft Office
      • Using STI classroom and administration software
    • Using educational hardware

        • Posting grades
        • Create web pages to post homework and student resources

    • Advanced computer skills and curriculum integration
      • Using existing textbook technology materials
      • Curriculum planning and mapping
      • Integrating hardware and software in classroom instruction
  • Pursue new grant opportunities for hardware, software, and staff development
    • Time needed to write and implement new technology grants
  • Time and staff needed for ongoing technology support; expansion of time and support will be needed as staff use of technology and skills increase
    • Possibility of the ability for a staff member to help in classrooms to develop and implement units and projects
    • Resource for teachers and staff in integrating technology in their classrooms

STI (Software Technology Inc.)

Student information systems software used by the district for state reporting and internal administration. This is an ever-growing system that incorporates classroom, office, and district-wide information effectively and in ever-increasing ways.

Mimio Studio

Turns any whiteboard into an interactive white board. Information can also be captured and saved, printed, emailed, or used in other software applications. It can be carried easily in a laptop bag, and can also be used wirelessly.

Grade book software for teacher with many features, including the ability to post grades for students to access securely online.

NetObjects Fusion

Web page design software and training initially provided through Carl Sandburg College. Allows ease of web site creation in a “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” format. Teachers can use the program to post homework or may choose to develop resources for classroom use and parent communication.

Provided and hosted through Carl Sandburg College; also provided initial training of the software. Allows online course design and the ability to give quizzes and tests along with materials in a pass-worded secure environment.

Classroom Performance System (CPS)

An easy to use infrared response system that obtains immediate feedback from every student. Allows results to be exported into various software formats. Can be used in conjunction with paper testing, and provides a non-threatening environment for review and test taking.

Sponsored by the Discovery Channel, it is a digital video-on-demand service that also includes resources and other materials for teachers to download and use in their classrooms. The content is geared to subject level and topic and can be used in many computer applications.
