Students will keep track of weather patterns in a chosen location and create a spreadsheet using collected data.

Activity

Students choose three cities and use media sources to track weather patterns for one week:

Teacher reviews the skills taught in the assigned EasyTech lessons and the functionality of the specific spreadsheet application students will be using.

1. Students record each city and state, date, precipitation, temperature, and also any sources used, in the provided data table.
2. Students compute each city’s average precipitation and temperature and record the results in the provided data table.
3. Students input information from their data tables into spreadsheets.
4. Students save and print their spreadsheets.

Student Assignment: 

1. Choose one or more media sources to track weather data for three cities for one week. Media sources may include newspapers, television news programs, radio news programs, or the Internet. Make sure your chosen source or sources provide daily temperature and precipitation levels for one area.
2. Record the data you collect in the table found here. Include the sources you used in the space below the table. Use the space below the table to compute the temperature and precipitation averages, and then fill in the appropriate boxes. (Round temperature average to the nearest whole number.)
3. Now you are ready to create a spreadsheet based on your data table. You may adjust the column widths as needed, if the labels are too long for the space provided. Make all your labels bold.
4. Save your spreadsheet in Student Resources.
